Why Bariatric Weight Loss?
Aley Tohamy, MD, weight loss surgeon Sean Yuan, MD, weight loss surgeon
An estimated 97 million adults in the United States are overweight or obese, a condition that substantially raises the risk of serious illness from hypertension, high blood cholesterol levels, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems, as well as breast, colon, endometrial and prostate cancers. Higher body weights are also associated with an increase in early death. As the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States, obesity poses a major public health challenge.
