Women’s Center Breast Health Program
From left: Gail Linberg, RN; Patricia Bailey, MD, Penn Surgeon and Medical Director of the Women's Center; and Joanne Rosenbaum, PAC, Administrative Director at the Women's Center
Our comprehensive breast health program begins with a multidisciplinary approach to preventing, detecting and treating breast problems. Your team of support at the Women’s center treats women with a variety of breast issues from benign conditions such as cysts or fibroadenomas to cancer. Our coordinated effort reduces scheduling times for appointments which allows us to expedite diagnoses and treatment.
The breast health team includes a board-certified Penn surgeon, radiologist, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, reconstructive surgeon, therapists, support from our Cancer Center (social worker, national clinical trials, current resources) and our breast health coordinator.
Your breast health coordinator will facilitate communication and scheduling among all care providers; streamline scheduling process for additional studies, breast biopsies and physician appointments and assist with access to support services. Your doctor will be informed of all results and diagnoses.
To schedule an appointment for a mammogram or breast ultrasound, call 866-424-4439.
To contact Gail Linberg about how she may assist with your breast care call 215-248-8084.

DEXA Scan Bone Density Screening for Osteoporosis and Vertebral Fracture Assessment

The Women’s Center features the DEXA scanner, a specialized X-ray device that measures bone density at key sites throughout the skeletal system. The DEXA Scanner can determine a woman’s risk for developing osteoporosis using very low doses of radiation and without the discomfort that can be associated with an invasive procedure. The information obtained from the scan is used by the patient and her physician to determine the best course of treatment should she be at risk for osteoporosis.
A new feature of our DEXA Scanner is the detection of vertebral fractures. A vertebral fracture assessment (VFA) combined with bone percentage density, provides superior prediction of fracture risk. VFA is completed in about 10 seconds and there is a very low dose of radiation (1% of conventional X-rays). The study is easy and safe for patients. Many insurance companies cover this additional scan. To find out if you're covered or to schedule a DEXA appointment call 866-424-4439.
