Chestnut Hill Cancer Program
The Cancer Registry is an essential part of the Chestnut Hill Health System Cancer Program.  It is a vital tool for the collection of data pertaining to patients diagnosed and treated for all varieties of cancer while maintaining strict confidentiality of all patients.  Our computerized system, MRS Cancer Registry, provided by IMPAC Medical Systems, is able to produce various types of accurate reports to our staff, administration, and state agencies.  Our goal is to provide high-quality data for use in the fight against cancer.

During 2006, the data in the Registry was utilized for: analytic studies, annual statistics, reporting to the Pennsylvania Cancer Registry, reporting to the National Cancer Data Base, administrative planning, and quality management studies.

The Registry is staffed with one full-time certified cancer registrar.  Responsibilities include: maintaining strict adherence to CoC data standards and coding instructions when abstracting information on all patients newly diagnosed and/or treated at Chestnut Hill Health System, responding to Cancer Registry correspondence from outside institutions, attending cancer conferences, and maintaining yearly follow-up on all living cancer patients accessioned in the registry. The Registry is currently following 1,867 patients at a follow-up rate of 91 percent.

The Chestnut Hill Healthcare Cancer Registry now has a database of 4,059 cases with 425 new cases accessioned in 2006.  The Registry maintains data on cancer patients diagnosed since January 1, 1999.
