Philadelphia, PA – Chestnut Hill Hospital’s new Diabetes Education Program can provide people diagnosed with diabetes, prediabetes or gestational diabetes with education and management tools to live well.
The program comprises a series of four workshops that begin every month on the first Wednesday, noon – 2 p.m., in the library at Chestnut Hill Hospital. The next session will begin on Wednesday, June 1 and continue on June 8, 15 and 22.
Workshop topics include: What, When and How Much to Eat – Developing food awareness; It’s Not Just About Food – The impact of activity, medications and stress on diabetes; Go for Your Goal! – Set realistic goals and overcome pitfalls; and a Cooking Class to spice up your cooking with demonstrations, tastings and tips.
“Our small group sessions provide a comfortable environment for interaction,” says program director Susan Pierce, M.P.T., C.D.E. “Our discussions are about current issues impacting people with diabetes. We’ll talk about real-world, practical ways to manage the disease.” Ms. Pierce, a certified diabetes educator and insulin pump specialist, will lead the workshops. She has been teaching people with diabetes for more than 10 years.
The program is FREE and all are welcome. Registration is required; call 215-248-8479.
