Chestnut Hill Hospital Earns ‘Top Performer on Key Quality Measures’ Recognition from The Joint Commission
Philadelphia, PA – Chestnut Hill Hospital, this week, was named one of the nation’s top performers on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. The Hospital was recognized by The Joint Commission for achieving excellence in performance on its accountability measures during 2010 for pneumonia, acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure and surgical care.
Out of 3,099 hospitals, Chestnut Hill is the only hospital in the City of Philadelphia and one of only 405 U.S. hospitals and critical access hospitals earning the distinction of top performer on key quality measures for attaining and sustaining excellence. In addition, Chestnut Hill Hospital is one of approximately 160 hospitals to receive recognition in all four categories, placing it among the top five percent of all hospitals. Inclusion on the list is based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the previous calendar year.
Chestnut Hill Hospital met the following criteria for recognition of its achievement: First, the hospital achieved performance of 95 percent or above on a single, composite score that includes all the accountability measures for data reported to The Joint Commission, including measures that had fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients. Second, the hospital also met a 95 percent performance threshold for every accountability measure for which it reports data to The Joint Commission, excluding measures with fewer than 30 eligible cases or patients.
“Today, the public expects transparency in the reporting of performance at the hospitals where they receive care, and The Joint Commission is shining a light on the top performing hospitals such as Chestnut Hill Hospital that have achieved excellence on a number of vital measures of quality of care,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president, The Joint Commission.
“We understand that what matters most to our patients is safe, effective care. That’s why
Chestnut Hill Hospital has made a commitment to accreditation and to evidence-based care processes. We have earned this recognition through the dedication and skill of our medical staff, nurses and other clinicians who care for our patients each day,” says Brooks Turkel, chief executive officer of Chestnut Hill Hospital.
