Cancer Survivor Donates Art to Chestnut Hill Hospital

Local artist and breast cancer survivor Pauline Braun recently donated a painting to the  cancer program. Since being diagnosed with cancer in 2004 art has been an integral part of her recovery. “I started drawing things in the chemo room just to keep my mind occupied, says Ms. Braun. Art allowed me to leave the cancer world and transcend to the world of art. This painting was inspired by a pink Eagles hat sitting on a Styrofoam head. It was a representation of hope and strength for patients. The colorful background represents all forms of cancer. I brought the piece to this year’s Relay for Life and asked people to sign it in the color that reflected the type of cancer in their lives for $1 a signature. With this and other efforts, our team raised $1,200 for local cancer research.” Now the artwork hangs in the Penn Radiation Oncology at Chestnut Hill building adjacent to the Hospital for other patients to enjoy. Cancer survivors continue to sign the painting as their treatment is completed.

Note: Ms. Braun resides in Oreland.
